Fatal accident on I-90 East

State Police are investigating a fatal accident on the I-90 East Wednesday morning.

SHERIDAN, N.Y. - One person was killed and another injured in a rollover accident on the I-90 between Exit 59 and Exit 58 in the Chautauqua County Wednesday.

Authorities say the eastbound lanes of the Thruway in New York's southwest corner have reopened after being shut down for several hours by the fatal accident.

The state police Thruway detail says the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m.

Volodymyr Halperin, 41, of Georgetown, Ontario was driving a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer when he struck the rear of a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, officials say. Rush D. Addair, 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana was driving the Silverado and lost control when he was rear-ended. Addair was then ejected from the truck.

The Chautauqua County Coroner pronounced Addair dead at the scene.

Addair's passenger, Iesha K. Lampton, 21, also of Indianapolis, suffered minor injuries.

Halperin, the tractor-trailer driver, was not injured, officials said.

All eastbound traffic was diverted off the highway at Exit 59 at Dunkirk during the closure. Both eastbound lanes were reopened by 9 a.m.

The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) reconstructed the accident and are continuing to investigate.
