BUFFALO, N.Y. — Hundreds of Western New Yorkers could be driving with a suspended license and not even know it.
According to both the Erie and Niagara county clerks, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles was lenient with eye exam requirements during the COVID pandemic and allowed people to "self-certify" their vision.
Since then, however, the old rules have gone back into place. Without an updated eye test, your license may have already been suspended.
The clerks told 2 On Your Side that about 1,200 people in Erie County have a suspended license, because of the eye exam requirements, as well as another 300 people in Niagara County. They added that if you can't remember how you last renewed your license., it would be a good idea to check.
