Erie County hosts upcoming recycling events for paint and hazardous waste

The two events are being held in September and require registration.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — Erie County residents can start cleaning out their garages as the county is holding two recycling events for hazardous waste and paint.

The paint-only recycling event is on September 14 in Hamburg. The household hazardous waste event begins in the City of Buffalo on September 28. Both events are free but require pre-registration.

Residents can register online at www.erie.gov/recycling or by calling the hazardous household waste information line at (716)-858-6800. There are limited appointments for the event.

Paints, stains, shellacs, lacquers, sealers, varnishes, and urethanes will all be accepted at the paint-only event.

The household hazardous waste collection includes chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, batteries, and more.

The full list of acceptable materials for the Sept. 28 event can be found at this link.

If residents can’t make the event, the County also hosts a year-round collection drop-off. Residents can register to recycle up to 50 pounds of hazardous waste in Tonawanda at no cost. Pre-registration is required, and more information can be found at this link or by calling (716)-998-8073.
