Erie County Clerk to bring one-stop passport service to Northtowns

Just in time for summer travels, Western NY residents can make passport pitstops starting next month.

ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — County Clerk Michael Kearns will host two outreach events this summer for first-time passport applicants in Western and Central New York.

Given a recent surge in international travel and nationwide passport delays, attendees will have the opportunity to apply for a passport card, passport book, or both.

The county office will host its first "Passports on the Move" event Tuesday, July 18 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. in Williamsville at the AAA Travel and Insurance Center.

An additional event will be hosted Tuesday, August 22 in Tonawanda Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the Erie County Clerk's Outreach Center.

“I am pleased to make this popular service available to residents across the Northtowns, along with our community partners at AAA of Western and Central New York,” said County Clerk Kearns. “Our main objective is to make County government more customer-centered, including offering easily accessible locations for travelers to apply for their passport.”

Applicants must bring a certified copy of their birth certificate and valid proof of identity to be approved. Attendees will be able to take their passport photos on-site for a fee of $8.95 for AAA members and $12.95 for non-members. All payments must be made in the form of a check or money order, as no cash or credit card payments will be accepted.

“I encourage anyone planning an upcoming vacation, the Buffalo Bills game in London, or college students preparing for a semester abroad to schedule an appointment for our ‘Passports on the Move’ event as the current wait time to receive a passport can be as long as 13 weeks,” Kearns stated.
