GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — The Erie County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) is investigating a car chase that led to gunshots being fired into a home in the neighborhood of N. Colony Rd on Grand Island Sunday afternoon.
According to a spokesperson for ECSO, the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Lenny Nowocien, a homeowner on N. Colony Rd. witnessed the chase and subsequent gunshots being fired.
"I was working on the boat and I heard the noise," Nowocien said.
Nowocien said he will routinely shout at vehicles that drive down the street at high rates of speed and run the stop sign near his house.
"This car come flying down the street," Nowocien said. "He started going around the corner, the car behind hime made the turn and the guy behind fired a shot."
Nowocien said he heard four gun shots from the rear vehicle involved in the chase.
One of the bullets hit a window of a nearby home.
"It was seconds, it was just bang bang bang boom and they were gone," Nowocien said.
2 On Your Side spoke to the homeowner, they said they exited the room about a minute before the bullet was shot through the glass.
The homeowner asked that WGRZ not show her home, or identify them for their own safety.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office says the vehicle that was being chased is not cooperating with investigators.
Investigators from the Sheriff's Office don't believe that the vehicles involved have any connection to residents in the neighborhood the incident occurred.
In a statement, ECSO said "detectives continue to canvass the area for witnesses, video and evidence. We ask anyone with information to call us at (716) 858-2903."
