Erie Canal photo contest, chance to be featured in Erie Canalway Calendar

Annual Erie Canalway Photo Contest kicks off.

NEW YORK — New York photographers are being asked to submit their photo entries for the annual Erie Canalway Photo Contest.

The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor are inviting both amateurs and professionals to submit up to 3 images of the Erie Canal. According to the press release, they are looking for images that showcase “the canals’ beauty, vibrancy, and character.” The winning images will be selected for the 2025 Bicentennial Erie Canalway Calendar.

The four categories are On the Water, Along the Trail, Canal Celebrations & Communities, and Classic Canal. The organization is selecting first, second, and third place in each category along with 12 honorable mentions.

Images must be in horizontal format and taken along the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. The area is 524 miles across upstate New York and includes Erie, Cayuga-Seneca, Oswego, and Champlain canals.

Images must be submitted and postmarked by August 30, 2024.
