BUFFALO, N.Y. - The L.B.J. apartment complex has tenants in the 10-story building fuming over non-working elevators. Several senior citizens voiced their concerns to the city lawmakers.
"There was a woman who needed medical assistance, they couldn't get to her, said Buffalo Common Councilman Richard Fontana (D-Lovejoy). "A gentleman fell in the staircase and he just had surgery. He's got to go back to the hospital. He was told to get in the elevator anyway and jump and it will go down. He did that and it went to the first floor. We can't use gravity to have these elevators working."
On Thursday, Fontana said he is convening a meeting with Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority management along with residents.
New elevators are expected to be installed in the apartment building located near Canisius College next year. Until then, there is a repair team on standby, around the clock.
