Small fire leads to an evacuation at an Amherst elementary school

Parents in the district were notified that at 10:15 a.m. Friday, smoke was seen coming from a boys bathroom.

AMHERST, N.Y. — No one was hurt, and no damage was caused, following a small, contained fire at Willow Ridge Elementary School in Amherst.

Parents in the district were notified that at 10:15 a.m. Friday, smoke was seen coming from a boys bathroom. Someone pulled the fire alarm, and the building was quickly evacuated.

Investigators found a small fire in a garbage can.

The Amherst Police Department is working with the fire department to determine how exactly the fire started.
