PERRY, NY-An elderly man suffered only minor injuries after being rescued from his submerged vehicle in the Town of Perry Wednesday.
First responders got a call shortly before 7 P.M. that a car had driven into the middle of a pond and was going under.
The driver, George Reed, 82, was trapped inside and submerged in water above his neck.
Wyoming Co. Sheriff's Deputy John Button and First Lieutenant Dakota Spink braved the cold water and attached a tow rope to a rear tire to pull Reed's vehicle out of the pond by a fire truck.
Members of the Perry and Perry Ctr. Fire Departments were then able to free Reed from the vehicle. He was taken to Wyoming County Community Hospital for treatment and later released.
Sheriff's deputies say Reed wound up in the water after taking evasive action to avoid another uninvolved vehicle.
