Cyclist reported to be lying in the road Wednesday night in East Aurora

East Aurora fire officials reported that a bystander was performing CPR on the cyclist when they arrived at the scene.

EAST AURORA, N.Y. — East Aurora fire officials responded to calls of a cyclist lying  in the road on Wednesday night at the intersection of Center Street and South Street.  

The emergency call was reported to have came in around 9:30 p.m. and when EMTs arrived at the scene a cyclist could be see lying in the roadway next to their bicycle with a bystander performing CPR. 

EMTs reported that the cyclist appeared to have critical head injuries and vital signs requiring Mercy Flight. The East Aurora fire chief coordinated a landing zone for Mercy Flight which required Center Street to be shut down. Crews were able to transport the cyclist to the landing zone via AMR and be airborne to ECMC by 10:14 p.m.

East Aurora police officials kept Center Street closed until 10:24 p.m. when it was able to reopen. 

Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for the East Aurora Fire Department released a statement and said there were no updates on the cyclist's condition and that no other vehicles were involved.

"It appears the cyclist fell off his bike for an undetermined reason. EAPD is still investigating and I would direct any additional questions to them at this time," Neil Caldiero said.
