Hylkema was taken by ambulance to ECMC where she was pronounced dead. The son was treated and released at the hospital at the time of the accident.
Ramirez-Santiago faces a maximum sentence of 25-years in prison when she returns for sentencing in September. Prosecutors on the case requested that she be remanded pending her sentence. She remains released on bail which was previously set at 75,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
Jennifer Hylkema was remembered by the community as a dedicated teacher who taught at the Falk School's Roosevelt Campus in Kenmore.
