24-year-old pleads guilty to fatal drunk driving accident

The 24-year-old Cheektowaga woman will face up to 25 years in prison when she returns for sentencing in September.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — A 24-year-old Cheektowaga woman pleaded guilty to all counts of her indictment on Wednesday morning before a Supreme Court Justice. 

Alondra L. Ramirez-Santiago was charged with on one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, and one count of manslaughter in the second degree. 

In February of 2024, Prosecutors say Ramirez-Santiago had been driving drunk down the southbound section of Transit Road in Cheektowaga when she hit another vehicle, killing 51-year-old Jennifer Hylkema and injuring her son who was a passenger in the car. 

Hylkema was taken by ambulance to ECMC where she was pronounced dead. The son was treated and released at the hospital at the time of the accident. 

Ramirez-Santiago faces a maximum sentence of 25-years in prison when she returns for sentencing in September. Prosecutors on the case requested that she be remanded pending her sentence. She remains released on bail which was previously set at 75,000 cash or $100,000 bond.

Jennifer Hylkema was remembered by the community as a dedicated teacher who taught at the Falk School's Roosevelt Campus in Kenmore.
