Dr. Gosy gets new job seeing patients

Prosecutors say Dr. Eugene Gosy prescribed millions of pain pills to maximize profit, and in some cases resulted in death, but that hasn't stopped him from working.

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY - A Williamsville doctor facing more than 160 criminal counts, including over-prescription of pain medication, is getting a new job in a doctor's office.

Prosecutors say Dr. Eugene Gosy prescribed millions of pain pills to maximize profit, and in some cases resulted in death - but that hasn't stopped him from working.

According to Invision Health in Williamsville, which offers a variety of services in medicine including pain management, Dr. Gosy will begin his new job practicing there Thursday.

Dr. Gosy was charged two years ago.

Soon after, a judge allowed Gosy to recommend to physicians at Pain Management of Western New York, what controlled substances to prescribe to patients, Gosy couldn't prescribe patients himself. He was also allowed to continue to practice in neurology.

Invision Health says Gosy inquired about changing jobs a few months ago.

REPORTER: Why on a matter of principle would your facility employ him?

When asked why the facility would hire him, Invision Health neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Landi said, "Dr. Gosy will not be prescribing medication. Dr. Gosy will be under the supervision of several physicians including myself. Dr. Gosy's day-to-day operations will be monitored and at this point he hasn't been proven guilty of anything."

Invision Health says the DEA has already interviewed their physicians, to know how Gosy will be monitored. Dr. Landi says a team of physicians, including himself will oversee Gosy, that includes treatment plans and billing.

The U.S. Attorney's office told us they have no comment on Dr. Gosy's new job.

We don't have a date for when the criminal trial against him could start.
