NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Niagara Falls fire officials responded to a house fire that began around 9 a.m. Thursday on Ferry Avenue.

The resident, who was home during the fire, was able to escape but unable to get his dog as the fire continued to worsen. Officials conducted a search and were able to rescue the 13-year-old dog named Baby.

Baby had been inside a crate at the time of the fire and was given oxygen after her rescue. Since then, Baby has been reported as doing well and is expected to survive.

There is yet to be a cause of what started the fire but the home did experience a significant amount of both smoke and water damage.
