BUFFALO, NY — Did you happen to see a rainbow cloud in the sky Friday?
According to Storm Team Two's Patrick Hammer, the stunning meteorological phenomenon is called cloud iridescence.
"The cloud needs to be relatively close to the sun," Hammer says. "The cloud is made of tiny super cooled water droplets or ice crystals which causes light traveling through them to scatter thus creating a rainbow illusion. "
Channel 2 viewer Cheryl Boggan sent us this photo of a cloud she spotted in Boston, NY.
