LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A free diabetes self-management program is coming to Niagara County this summer. The Niagara County Department of Health Nursing Program is partnering with the County's Office for the Aging to offer the workshops.
The program will run for six weeks beginning on Thursday, August 15 at 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The program will cover physical and emotional aspects of managing diabetes. It's designed to "improve an individual's A1C's and reduce complications associated with diabetes."
Participants can learn how to maintain active lifestyles, improve problem-solving and decision-making skills, and address challenges of living with diabetes.
Workshop topics include the following:
- improving food choices to maintain nutrition
- increasing physical activity for health weight
- practicing coping strategies
