Deputy recovering from injury suffered during Bills vs. Ravens game

Deputy Jason Macken was hurt when a Baltimore Ravens player ran into the back of him.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A reserve deputy with the Erie County Sheriff's Office is recovering from surgery for injuries suffered along the sidelines during the Buffalo Bills game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Sheriff Tim Howard says Deputy Jason Macken was hurt when a Ravens player ran into the back of him after a play in the end zone at the tunnel end of New Era Field.

Video of what is believed to the play where Macken was hurt is in the video player on this page.

"Currently, the deputy remains in an area hospital recovering from surgery for injuries sustained during the December 8 Buffalo Bills game," said Howard. "I have spoken with his wife and offered my best thoughts and prayers on behalf of the Erie County Sheriff's for the deputy's full recovery."

"Working the sidelines of an NFL game can be rewarding but can be dangerous too," the Sheriff continued. "With the speed and size of players, paired with the dozens of game day staff along the sidelines, there are many opportunities for collisions and staff to get injured. Today we are just concerned about Deputy Macken's health and recovery and I have offered my full support."
