AMHERST, N.Y. — The Amherst Police shared with the community on their Facebook page Saturday, pictures of a buck that had a soccer net stuck on his antlers. They encouraged those who may see the young buck not to worry or approach him.

In their post they wrote, "Buck in Willow Ridge area with partial soccer net on antlers. Fuzzy Fawn Wildlife (local deer rehab) and DEC are aware. Fuzzy has tried 5 times to rescue buck but he is extremely mobile, jumping 6ft stockade fencing when cornered. Please don’t not chase the deer because you’re making him spook easier which is making it harder to catch. ONLY call Fuzzy if the deer is in your fenced in backyard with 4 sides of fencing that’s over 5ft tall. The buck is very healthy, he can eat/drink, the net is not hurting him or causing any problems. If you see blood it’s not an injury it’s caused by the velvet on the antlers, he is not in pain. "

Now fast forward to Monday,  and the department had some happy news to share, and maybe a little relief to those worried about the buck.

In the updated post the Amherst Police shared a statement from their Animal Control Officer that read, "Today I was honored to assist @fuzzyfawnwildlife in freeing this young buck from the headdress he has been carrying around for 2 weeks!  While the mini hockey net was certainly an annoyance to him, he was still extremely mobile and ran each time the rehabber attempted to sedate him.  Today he sought refuge in the nook of a church and we were finally able to keep him at close range long enough to be sedated.  Once he was snoozing, the net was cut off his antlers in less than a minute,  the sedation was reversed and he was free to do deer things unencumbered by rattling PVC pipe!  A good day indeed!"
