NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Emergency demolition has been ordered for two homes following a massive early morning fire in Niagara Falls.
Crews were called out shortly before 4 A.M. to battle the flames at 19th and Walnut Avenue. One of the homes was occupied, the other was not.
Acting fire chief Clifford Mayes tells 2 On Your Side the fire broke out in the occupied home and had already spread to the unoccupied home by the time they were able to get water on it.
Every piece of fire equipment in the city, along with equipment from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, was called out to battle the blaze. It took close to two hours to bring the fire under control.
Mayes said there are conflicting reports as to whether anyone was in either building at the time and will only know for sure once they sift through what remains of the structures during the demolition process.
No other injuries were reported.
