NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. — The bus service that operates in Niagara County is set to waive bus fares for a week.

Starting after Labor Day on September 3 and continuing to September 6, the Connect Niagara Bus Service will offer free rides to those who use their services.

The initiative is aimed to introduce the service to more people said Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner.

"This is our second free trial period, as we did one back in July, which did lead to an uptick in ridership," said Garret Meal, Commissioner of DPW.

As students flock back to Western New York, Meal said the free fare trial period aims to give students a chance to try out the bus service.

"Now, with SUNY Niagara and other colleges starting the semester and vacations over for most people, we thought this would be a good time to again waive all fares on Connect Niagara to encourage more people to give it a try," said Meal.

Connect Niagara hosts five different routes in Niagara County. Riders can take the bus on the scheduled stops, call ahead for pickup, or flag down the bus. The service will drive off its route up to three-fourths of a mile for those who schedule pickups.

The regular on route fare is $2 and the off route fare is $4.

“Our hope is that, with low fares and free transfers to other Connect Niagara routes and NFTA buses, people will realize Connect Niagara is a convenient and inexpensive way to get where you need to be,” said Meal.

More information on the bus schedule can be found at this link. Riders can schedule a pick up using this phone number: (716)-282-8544.
