Buffalo community leader Constance B. Eve passes away

Eve founded the group "Women for Human Rights and Dignity" in 1980, which has provided women in the community with resources for decades.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Beloved Buffalo community leader Constance B. Eve has passed away. She was 91 years old. 

Her death was confirmed by her daughter, Leecia Eve. 

Eve founded the group "Women for Human Rights and Dignity" in 1980, which has provided women in the community with resources for decades.

She was professor emeritus in English and she holds a Master of Arts Degree from New York University.  

Eve is the recipient of many awards over the years.  Most recently, Eve was named Juneteenth Festival Queen last year. Officials said at the time that Eve was "an exemplary individual and a source of inspiration for the entire Western New York community."

Eve was married to former New York State Deputy Speaker Assemblyman Arthur O. Eve for over 60 years. She is survived by her five children Leecia  Eve,  Arthur O. Eve, Jr.; Eric Vincent Eve, Martin King Eve, and Malcolm X. Eve.

Information on funeral arrangements are as follows:

Public visitation:  Friday, April 5, 2024, at Alan R. Core Funeral Home, 1933 Kensington Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215  from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral service: Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, 139 Pearl Street, Buffalo, NY 14202.

The service will be live streamed www.spcbuffalo.org and on Facebook and YouTube

Donations can be made to the St. Philip's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund at 18 Sussex Street, Buffalo, NY 14215 and/or to the Dr. G. Bowles-Bolles Scholarship Fund at West Virginia State University in Institute, WV 25112.
