City of Buffalo issues a Code Blue

The City of Buffalo and Erie County have issued a Code Blue for the night of Tuesday, Dec. 3 going into the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 4.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo and Erie County have issued a Code Blue for the night of Tuesday, Dec. 3 going into the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 4. 

When the temperature drops below freezing or 15 degrees Fahrenheit, it triggers one of two alerts, Code Blue 32 or Code Blue 15. Emergency situations near zero degrees or with extreme weather trigger additional response. 

The overnight warming shelter location for Tuesday night: 

  • 586 Genesee St, Buffalo, 14204 - accessible location, OPEN 8 p.m. - 7 a.m. (This location was formerly a women's shelter but will be open to all for Code Blue.)
  • Dulski Center, 129 Lewis St. Buffalo, 14206, OPEN 8 p.m. - 8 a.m.

The daytime warming shelter will be open on Wednesday, Dec. 4 and located at the following:

  • 586 Genesee St, Buffalo 14204

Code Blue clients will be permitted at the NFTA METRO Transportation Center from 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. to obtain bus tickets to the Code Blue Shelter when Code Blue is called. People will not be allowed to wait at the NFTA outside of those hours.
