Clarence Center kitchen fire causes $175,000 in damage

The fire was contained to the kitchen and nobody was injured.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A house fire started in Clarence Center on Wednesday afternoon after the owner of the house reported heavy smoke coming from her oven, according to the Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office. 

Fire officials urged the homeowner to evacuate the house before they arrived on scene. Fire crews responded to the blaze three minutes after the homeowner reported the heavy smoke.

Crews were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, but it sustained heavy damage, estimated at about $175,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
