How to dispose of your Christmas tree

Trees being composted will not be collected unless all lights, decorations, wires, and nails are removed.

BUFFALO, N.Y. โ€” As Christmas passes us by, and we approach the new year many people may now be starting to take down their Christmas trees. But after the decorations are taken off what comes next for the popular holiday season symbol.

In an effort to help ensure trees are composted the City of Buffalo will be doing a tree collection for residents Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The collection is being led by the City of Buffalo's waste contractor 'Geiter Done Of WNY'.

Residents looking to get their tree taken care of can have their trees picked-up curbside, or people can bring their trees to 383 Babcock Avenue. Those dropping off must have proof of City of Buffalo residency.

Trees being composted will not be collected unless all lights, decorations, wires, and nails are removed.

More waste is produced between the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve holidays than any other time of the year. 6-million tons is added onto the average during this time nationwide.
