VESTAL, N.Y. โ One of New York City's most popular Christmas traditions is the Rockefeller Center's Christmas tree, and the group announced on November, 1 that the 2023 year's tree had been chosen.
About three hours away from Buffalo and close to the NY/PA border, the tree was picked out of Vestal, NY.
The 80-year-old Norway spruce stands at 80 feet tall, and weighs 12 tons.
On Saturday, November 11 the group shared to their social media pages that the tree had officially made it to it's destination in Rockefeller Center.
The Christmas tree's lighting ceremony for the 2023-24 season will be held on Wednesday, November, 29. Alongside being lit at night, the tree also gets lit for a special 24-hours on Christmas day and New Year's Eve. The tree will remain in Rockefeller Center for people in the city to visit until January, 13.
The very first tree that was put in Rockefeller Center was in 1931. Workers for the center had pooled their money together to buy the 20-foot high balsam fir at the time.
