EAST AURORA, N.Y. — Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora has been listed for sale by the Diocese of Buffalo.
The announcement of the sale comes just after the Diocese filed a motion to get a preliminary injunction related to paying off their debts to survivors of sexual abuse.
Located on Knox Road in the Town of Aurora the Seminary has a sale price of $5.3 million. The property features a 460-seat auditorium, a chapel, large library, six dormitories, and more.
In 2020 Christ the King had announced that it would be ceasing all operations after experiencing an operating deficit amounting to $500,000 from over the past 10 years. At the time they were able to offset the operating deficit due to financial gifts over the years but they could not just rely on that.
Other factors that were also noted by the Diocese in 2020 when it closed were said to be fluctuating enrollment, capital improvement to the old facilities, and increasing operating costs.
In the same year, at the time of the Seminary's closing, the Diocese of Buffalo had also filed for bankruptcy.
Real estate brokers Hanna Commercial are representing the 117-acre property sale.
The seminary had been taken over through sponsorship and administration by the Diocese of Buffalo in 1990.
