Once-celebrated Cheektowaga police officer has been fired

Cheektowaga's police chief and assistant police chief would not get into details, but they confirmed that an internal investigation led them to recommend that the town board fire former officer Dominic Schwartz at their meeting this past Tuesday night.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – A police officer who was celebrated as a hero in a shooting in Cheektowaga just a few months ago has now been fired from the force.

Last November, Dominic Schwartz was one of two officers who helped chase down Travis Green, the man who fired multiple shots at a Dollar General store in Cheektowaga, injuring one person.

Then on Tuesday, he was fired following an internal investigation about his relations with a registered sex offender.

According to attorney Matthew Albert, the lawyer representing level-2 sex offender Jessica Huber of Cheektowaga, Schwartz discussed sex with her online before going to her home three times while in uniform.

An Erie County spokesperson confirmed with 2 On Your Side that when Huber's parole officer learned about the relationship, it was reported to Cheektowaga police.

Cheektowaga's police chief and assistant police chief would not get into details, but they confirmed that the investigation led them to recommend that the town board fire Schwartz at their meeting this past Tuesday night.

The sex offender's attorney said to Channel 2 by e-mail that his client was "preyed upon by a deviant officer."

Huber, 41, was convicted in 2016 for sexually abusing a 5-year-old boy in Greece. She is serving a 10 year probation, according to New York State’s sex offender registry.

Albert says attorney Joel Daniels is representing Schwartz is this case. Channel 2 reached out to him for comment but have not heard back.
