BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The discarded tech of Western New York will be featured in an exhibit at our nation's capital.
Sunnking Electronics Recycling in Brockport, NY sent hundreds of recycled cell phones for an exhibit to showcase the evolution and impact of cell phones at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The exhibit is titled, "Cellphone: Unseen Connections".
"We're thrilled to contribute to the Smithsonian's 'Connected' exhibit and to share with their guests the importance of responsible electronics disposal," said Adam Shine, President of Sunnking. "As a company committed to sustainability and e-waste reduction, it's an incredible honor to have our history, story, and community be a part of the celebration of this exhibit."
In addition to the cell phones on display, two employee profiles will be featured. This includes Tammy Maxon who will be profiled as part of "a diverse group of changemakers who are shaping the cellphones' present and future."
“Where Sunnking comes in is they are a fantastic story of a U.S.-based industry that is at the heart of dealing with the e-waste problem or electronic debris and finding ways to harvest materials and further the lives of these minerals that go into [cellphones],” said Joshua Bell, curator at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in a released statement.
"Cellphone: Unseen Connections" is the display of electronic devices and the responsible disposal of them.
The exhibit opens to the public on Friday.
