Cazenovia Park shelter house renamed

A ceremony was held at Cazenovia Park in South Buffalo to rename the shelter house after Robert J. Williams.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The shelter house in Cazenovia Park now honors Robert J. Williams, a former professional athlete and long-time Buffalo police officer.

A ceremony was held on Wednesday to present the shelter's new name in honor of Williams, who was a professional baseball player and long-time Buffalo police office. Williams coached and mentored thousands of children through the Buffalo Police Athletic League.

"And what Bob did was he molded them, he shaped them. He helped them become better citizens, " Robert William's brother, Ed Williams said. "Not everyone has to be a lawyer or a legislator or a priest or a businessman, but to be a good citizen. That's what Bob worked on."

Williams family said he spent nearly every summer at the shelter house watching baseball and working with kids.
