NFL announces Smart Heart Sports Coalition expansion during Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month

Damar Hamlin's mother, Nina Hamlin, will be the honorary chairwoman.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The NFL announced on Friday that the 'Smart Heart Sports Coalition' expanded to 37 member organizations.

The coalition was founded in March 2023 after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin received life-saving emergency care. The coalition's mission was to make its way into all 50 states to provide evidence-based policies in order to prevent fatalities from sudden cardiac arrest.

Some of those organizations joining the coalition include:

  • The Association of Black Cardiologists
  • The American College of Sports Medicine
  • The John Taylor Babbit Foundation
  • Citizen CPR Foundation
  • National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians

"We're thrilled these organizations have joined our coalition with the shared goal and commitment of advancing life-saving policies for students in every state," said Jeff Miller, NFL Executive Vice President of Communications, Public Affairs and Policy. "These groups will add to the coalition's impact as we continue to engage in a vigorous, coordinated, and sustained advocacy effort to make school communities safer and more resilient."

Damar Hamlin's mother, Nina Hamlin, has been named the honorary chairwoman of the coalition's Ambassadors Advisory Council.

"I'm pleased and humbled to accept the invitation to serve in this new role," said Nina Hamlin, who helps to support her son's Chasing M's Foundation. "This work is another way for me to support Damar's role as an advocate and his ongoing work off the field to make sure kids across the country have the same access to life-saving care that he did, if and when they need it."

Spreading awareness about CPR is crucial. ⏱️ Remember, in sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts! Be a hero, learn...
