BUFFALO, N.Y. — A man was taken to ECMC Sunday morning after being shot at what Buffalo Police believe was a party in a building on Genesee Street.
According to a Buffalo Police spokesperson, officers responded to the corner of Genesee and Fougeron around 4 a.m. after receiving a call of a shooting.
Officers were seen searching the building around 5 a.m. and later reported finding a firearm.
It is not known whether the location had the necessary permits to hold the party, the spokesperson said.
Police did not identify any parties involved including the victim, who was taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries.
2 On Your Side spoke with a man who identified himself as the building's landlord. He said the space is sometimes used for parties by another group not associated with the Deshi Center, a Bangladeshi community center, which he said no longer uses the space.
Erie County public records confirm Deshi Center Inc. purchased a new location at 162 Kerns Ave. in October 2023 for a total of $421,500.
A spokesperson confirmed that a third party/event promoter was involved in the Buffalo Police investigation but stated that it was too early to share additional information.
A motive for the shooting is also still being investigated.
