Chemical spill causes hazmat cleanup at Buffalo General

The hospital lost water for some time, but they were able to continue surgeries and patient care was not interrupted.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A chemical spill caused a hazmat situation at Buffalo General Medical Center Tuesday morning.

Buffalo Firefighters were called to a hazmat situation around 9 a.m.

Officials say there was some type of chemical spill in the boiler room at the hospital on High Street. This room is used to store steam and hot water, and it feeds all of their buildings.

The hospital lost water for some time, but they were able to continue surgeries, and patient care was not interrupted.

Buffalo Fire Hazmat Captain Jerry Johnson says there is no threat to the public. "So, no cause for alarm at all. There was no evaluations, no injuries," he said. "It contained in the room it spilled in.
