BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo’s Department of Public Works is gearing up for what could be a messy morning commute Tuesday.
The city is starting the winter season with 8,000 tons of salt and 50 pieces of snow-fighting equipment, which will be deployed ahead of Tuesday’s commute. DPW commissioner Nate Marton spoke with 2 On Your Side and said the crews are preparing to salt and clear the roads overnight.
Despite his department’s efforts, he is also asking residents to use caution and drive slowly as it is the first real expected snowfall of the season.
“The plan on a snowfall like this is Tier One in our snow plan, a general snowfall, so we'll hit the mains and secondaries,” Marton said. “We won't necessarily transition into side streets. The mains and secondaries won't clog up because it's only one to three inches. We'll hit those first, keep them open and rolling, then we will be in side streets, mains, and secondaries all at once.”
The city is also reminding residents to abide by the winter parking restrictions along bus routes. There's no parking along bus routes between 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m.
