Firefighters rescue suspected squatter during house fire in Buffalo

Officials said the fire started outside the vacant three-story home.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Fire Department was called to a fire just after 4 a.m. Saturday.

The fire was reported to be at a home this morning near Broadway and Bailey Avenue. 

Officials said the fire started outside the vacant three-story home, and firefighters rescued one individual that was inside the house. A spokesperson for the Buffalo Fire Department said the person is a possible squatter. 

He was transported to Erie County Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation.  

Fire investigators said the damage to the home is estimated at $250,000.  

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the fire department said.
