BUFFALO, N.Y. — On Friday the Buffalo Zoo shared the sad news that one of their river otters has passed away.
In a post made to their social media pages, the zoo wrote "We are deeply saddened to announce the recent passing of our North American river otter, Rascal. Rascal was born at Buttonwood Park Zoo in 2007 and came to the Buffalo Zoo in December 2012. He was 17-years-old. Rascal's age was a testament to the impressive care our animals receive here at the Buffalo Zoo. The median life expectancy for North American River Otters in managed care is 12.3 years and less than 2% of otters reach age 17."
The zoo is asking the community to share any pictures or memories of Rascal from visits in the comments of their post which is attached below.
