Buffalo Zoo helps Haji the anteater celebrate his 21st birthday

For the special occasion, the zoo created a special drink for Haji. It was a big glass of 'bug juice,' made with peanut butter, insects and water.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There was a birthday this week at the Buffalo Zoo. Haji the anteater turned 21 years old.

For the special occasion, the zoo decided to celebrate this one with a special drink for Haji. It was a big glass of "bug juice," which was made with peanut butter, insects and water.

Haji seemed to like the drink just fine.

In November, Haji was joined by another anteater, Maria, who made the cross-country move after living at the Santa Barbara Zoo in California.

Zoo officials at the time said Maria was settling in nicely, though she and Haji would not be out together at the same time.
