Water Buffalo Club hosts tailgate to honor National Heritage Month

The month celebrates and honors the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Water Buffalo Club 716 will honor National Native American Heritage Month with a dedicated tailgate on Sunday. 

It will celebrate the culture and heritage of the Haudenosaunee with traditional culinary foods and music.

Irma Cortes, a Seneca Nation Senior Advocate will be anointed as the Honorary Grand Poobah for the day.

The tailgate will take place in the Big Tree Inn Parking Lot located at 4277 Abbott Road, Orchard Park, and will feature performances by native singers, traditional Native American foods, an induction ceremony, and the Water Buffalo chant.

National Native American Heritage Month is celebrated each November to honor the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities, and to ensure their histories and contributions can continue to thrive throughout future generations.

The club will also honor United States Marine Corps Veteran and longtime Herd member Brain Drost and celebrate new herd members Samantha and Tylor Hartnett who drove 22 hours from Colorado to join.

 A breaking tables ceremony will be performed by Chuck Skelly, BillsSquatch, and his brothers. Longtime former Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Mike Lodish will also make an appearance at the event. 

The Water Buffalo Club 716 currently has over 6,000 members including fans from Mexico, Germany, England, Denmark, Canada, and more.
