City of Buffalo begins towing vehicles to clear streets of snow

Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, the police department blocked off streets that the city has targeted that are need of snow removal.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo is continuing to clean up from two big snow storms that dumped multiple feet of snow in the city, especially the southern portion.

Buffalo DPW Commissioner Nate Marton provided an update on the city's efforts in removing snow from the streets.

"We have a lot of heavy equipment and the DPW, at this point in time, on the streets, 348 pieces of equipment," Marton said.

Marton says there will be a coordinated effort between the DPW, Buffalo Police and Parking Enforcement to get streets cleared off.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday,  the police department started to block off streets that the city has targeted that are need of snow removal. Parking enforcement will do a "mini-tow" of vehicles parked on the street to a nearby street.

The DPW will then plow the street, curb to curb and remove the snow. The vehicles will then be towed back to their street.

They ask residents that if they see their vehicle being towed, to not run into the street or in front of the vehicles. Your vehicle will be returned. If they are unable to tow your vehicle back to your street, they will create a list of where the vehicles will be towed to. Buffalo Police District will have the list and you can contact them at: 716-851-4415.

If you have your vehicle parked one of the City of Buffalo parking ramps or the Rapp lot, you're asked to remove your vehicle by 12pm Saturday, January 20.
