BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown on Wednesday reacted after a man hired for a project to develop Shoshone Park suddenly pulled out of those plans.
A federal grand jury in March of 2022 handed up a 40-count indictment against 67-year-old Hormoz Mansouri. The charges included conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, as well as money laundering.
The accusations of misusing pandemic relief funds came after his firm was given a $175,000 contract to develop a master plan for Shoshone Park.
Here's what mayor brown had to say about this situation.
"A number of checks are done," he said. "It was missed by the selection committee that reviewed it."
Mayor Brown added that the contracts don't come directly to him. Rather, they are handled by the city's Department of Public Works.
