Buffalo school to be named after the late Ron Peoples

The Buffalo School Board voted unanimously to rename PS 82, The Ronald Peoples School of Scholars.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A packed Buffalo School board meeting included many people waiting for the approval of a name change.

After hearing from the community, the family of the late Ron Peoples, and others, the board voted unanimously to rename PS 82 Early Childhood Center The Ronald Peoples School of Scholars.

His journey through education was notable.

He was the first black male teacher at Early Childhood Center PS 82. He was the first black male elementary supervisor of the Buffalo  Public Schools, served as director of Adult Basic Education, and served as a Home School Coordinator.

Peoples worked in education for over 50 years.

Mr. Ronald Peoples continued to serve his community after retirement as an adolescent group worker and recreation program specialist at the Neighborhood House Association.

Ron Peoples died in March 2020 of COVID.
