BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man is facing charges after two officers were shot at while responding to a report of individuals on illegal motorbikes last week.
The incident happened on Friday around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Walden Avenue and Harmonia Street on the city's East Side. Police say when officers got to the scene, one of the riders allegedly took off and opened fire.
Police say Steven Werts, 25, shot and struck a civilian who was part of a large street gathering. Police also investigating whether or not Werts fired at officers who responded to the call.
The 22-year-old Buffalo man who was shot was taken to ECMC for non-life threatening injuries.
Werts was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the incident. Police say additional charges are possible.
