Buffalo hosts foreclosure auction for homes, businesses

The auction started with 300 foreclosed Buffalo homes and businesses on Tuesday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Hundreds of foreclosed Buffalo homes and businesses are on the auction block. The City of Buffalo is currently taking bids on buildings that were deemed delinquent because of taxes or other fees like trash removal.

The auction started with 300 on Tuesday, and there are 700 in total for the week. Jason Shell, Buffalo's commissioner of assessment and taxation, says there may have been more, but he's glad people took advantage of the city's foreclosure assistance program.

"We started off with roughly 4,200 properties. In Rem 53 we're auctioning off 355 so it's positive both of people paying and also payment plans. We're up around 800 payment plans where we've assisted people. We're still helping people day of auction and the next two days to assist with them in payment plans or taking payments to remove their properties."

The auction will start again Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. and end on Thursday.

Anyone who still wants to work out a payment plan can contact the city before the auction ends to get their property off of the foreclosure list.
