Buffalo City Mission helps feed hungry during holiday season

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo City Mission is helping feed anyone in need across Western New York this holiday season.

The City Mission is delivering more than 3,800 meals to the homeless, elderly folks, and the poor Christmas day.

The Buffalo City Mission launched its annual Hambone Express, thanks to more than 200 volunteers. Many of the volunteers have been helping for more than 30 years.

"In the spirit of the season, the City Mission is honored to deliver hot meals and season’s greetings to those who are struggling," said Stuart Harper, CEO and executive director of the Buffalo City Mission. "This time of year is about fellowship and spreading goodwill in our community.

"The volunteers who donate their time to support our annual Hambone Express event truly personify what the holidays represent. Together, we are helping to lift up the spirits of our neighbors who are in need and to make sure no one in our community goes hungry on Christmas Day."

Added Aubrey Calhoun of the Buffalo City Mission: "A lot of our families that come actually bring their young children, because this is a way they can teach them to be an advocate at a very young age, and then they're ingrained, and then they start coming year over year."

Aubrey reminds everyone the City Mission needs volunteers year-round. It serves 500 to 600 meals a day.
