BUFFALO, N.Y. — Back in June last year, two benches were stolen from the Buffalo Central Terminal's great lawn.
Now, those benches have been replaced. Some teamwork by the Central Terminal, The Foundry, and Broadview Federal Credit Union helped deliver these new benches to the lawn.
The new benches were built by students in The Foundry's workforce development programs, with some help from volunteers with Broadview.
"It's been used widely for birthdays community meetings, such as concert events, so it's really up and coming or at The Foundry," Ramon Morales of Broadview Federal Credit Union said. "You have the students that are developing the skills while being fabricating. We had the opportunity as Broadview employees and volunteers to assist with that. So we see their school development, we have an opportunity to volunteer and make a difference in our community."
The volunteers say this project shows the spirit of unity and resiliency in Buffalo.
“We are appreciative of Broadview's generous support, enabling our students to revitalize a crucial aspect of a community project that we worked so hard on last year,” The Foundry executive director Megan McNally told 2 On Your Side back in October, months after the benches were reported as stolen.
“The newly installed benches at the Central Terminal will stand as a testament to the strength of collaboration and the remarkable impact that can be achieved when community partners and our youth unite to create tangible, transformative change in our neighborhoods.”
