Morning bike ride honors veterans, raises money and awareness

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Some veterans spent Saturday morning cycling around the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park to raise awareness and money for a good cause.

Cyclists made four stops around the park to honor those who served. Organizers said the ride also helps build a sense of community amongst local veterans.

"We're really trying to help folks to get back up off the couch, on a saddle, and be part of this," said Sam Marrazzo, who is the founder of WNY Cyclists for Veterans. "This is an amazing ride, this doesn't happen overnight. We have great support. Most importantly is we want to see more vets be part of a great riding community in Buffalo."

The group also holds a ride every Veterans Day.

All proceeds from Saturday's event will be donated to Western New York Heroes.
