BUFFALO, N.Y. -- An iconic Buffalo building that's been standing since 1886 came down Saturday before it is replaced by a new mixed-use tower.
"The Bachelor" at 329 Franklin Street, near the corner of W. Tupper Street, was demolished Saturday morning.
The four story, 10,400 square-foot structure was used as a 12-unit apartment building, according to Preservation-Ready Sites' online database of historic Buffalo buildings.
The building was designed by Green & Wicks as luxury apartments in the late 1800s and was likely an example of an apartment created exclusively for bachelor tenants, according to the PRS website. It was also among the first apartment houses to be built in Buffalo as opposed to the more common tenement buildings.
The building's lot is located across from Buffalo Proper.
