City of Buffalo animal shelter one step closer to possible relocation

There has been a new application submitted, now being reviewed by the city.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Common Council may be one step closer to securing a new home for the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter

During Tuesday's common council finance committee meeting, councilmembers provided an update on the city's RFP, or request for proposal. It's a document that outlines a project, then solicits bids from contractors to complete it.

The meeting confirmed there is someone who has applied to the proposed RFP.

"My concern is to make sure that the building, the location, meets the needs of the animals," said Common Council Member David Rivera of the Niagara District.

Though he could not confirm the exact location, Rivera said the location application is on Niagara Street.

"It's an RFP we want to make sure we don't interfere with any negotiations that might be occurring, we want to be of help and we want to work with our DPW department and make sure that all the needs are taken care of," said Rivera.

Because of the nature of RFP's, the exact proposed location remains undisclosed.

This all comes after recent protests surrounding the shelter's current Oak Street location.

The Common Council now awaits to work with the Department of Public works and Legal Department, on further detail.
