BUFFALO, N.Y. — Local artists, or aspiring artists, are invited to create pieces for the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.
The 28th annual Art Live celebration will take place on Saturday, October 19 from noon to 2pm. Submissions for the celebration are open now until September 13. Participants are asked to create 'living representations of famous works' and win prizes.
Anyone can submit their work including students, community groups, families, organizations, and individuals. The replicas, often called tableaux, can be created using people and props along with creativity.
For this years competition, the museum is celebrating 'all things Buffalo AKG.' Participants should 'take a closer look at the museum’s collection and AKG Public Art Initiative' when they are creating their replicas.
There will be more than $4000 given out in prize money for winning replicas.
Local judges will select winners for the following categories: Judges’ Choice, Best Craftsmanship and Most Creative Entry. Participants will compete within each category based on age group (School Groups Grades K–8, School Groups Grades 9–12, Individual Adults Ages 18+, Individual Kids and Teens, and Households/Community Groups.)
To celebrate the museum's collection Marisol: A Retrospective, a bonus category will be added to the competition dedicated to replicas of Marisol artworks.
If you're struggling with ideas for what to create, don't worry. The Buffalo AKG has created an inspiration page to help artists come up with ideas for their work. The link here includes over 10,000 examples of paintings, sculptures, drawings and other artworks for inspirations.
