Buffalo AKG announces new exhibition

Over 100 works by nearly 90 artists will be on view in an all-new exhibition starting September 27.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo's AKG Art Museum welcomes a new art installation next month.

Electric Op will be on view from September 27, 2024, to January 27, 2025, curated by former Buffalo AKG Curator Dr. Tina Rivers Ryan. Visitors can find the exhibit installed across the entire first floor of the museum's new Jeffrey E. Gundlach Building and inside the Ronnen Glass Box Theater. It will take up nearly 9,000 square feet across six galleries.

Recent contemporary art pieces are included in the exhibition- from the 1980s onward- including paintings, sculptures of programmed lights, and an interactive digital game. More than 100 artworks will be featured from nearly 90 artists combined.

The artwork follows the history between electronic and Op art- short for optical art- which rose in popularity throughout the 1960s, with vibrant colors and geometric patterns. According to a release by the AKG, the exhibition is a first of its kind to examine the relationship between 1960s Op Art and new electronic media.
