Buffalo AKG Art Museum celebrates 1 year since it reopened

The goal of the museum's design has been to usher in a new way of thinking about art museums.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Friday marked one year since the Buffalo AKG Art Museum reopened, prompting a celebration by local leaders.

The seven-year project began when Jeffrey Gundlach made a multimillion dollar donation to transform the campus. The goal of the design has been to usher in a new way of thinking about art museums.

2 On Your Side caught up with staff Friday about the progress made during the past 12 months.

"People have been coming in, but its not just from Western New York," Charlie Garling, the museum's director of learning and creativity, told 2 On Your Side.

"People have been coming from around the world, talking not just about the amazing new building we have, or how extraordinary our collection is, but really what I consider the heart of the museum, which is the interactions they're having with the staff and with each other."

The museum is open every day besides Tuesdays and holidays.
