Broadway Market looks for more Black vendors ahead of Black History Month

Last year, the Broadway Market had about 20 vendors for their annual BHM event. Right now, they have around 30, but are still taking a few more applications.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Broadway Market is highlighting Black-owned businesses every Saturday in February, but the market is still looking for vendors who want to be a part of the celebration.

The market has always celebrated Black History Month, but for the 3rd year in a row, they've dedicated every Saturday in February to promoting Black business owners. Before, they only dedicated one weekend for the entire month.

Many vendors are returning this year or have became a seasonal vendors after their success with this event last year. Dexter Shaw is one of those vendors. He is the owner of Dexter's Hats, Caps & Things. He's now celebrating almost ten years in business.

"I started off as a garage sell vendor here. I came in with about 4-5 hats when I started off. I just kept multiplying from there, multiplying from there and now you see what I got," Shaw said.

Another business owner, Lynette Elliott, the founder of E-scent-ials Body Care said it's also been a win-win situation for her.

"We have grown our clients. We have people that have been accustomed to us being a part of the market and they come looking for us. And, it all started with last year Black History Month here,"

Both business owners recommend other Black-owned businesses to take a shot at the Broadway Market and see how far they can go.

The Broadway Market is still looking for more Black vendors. They only have a few spots left. February 2 is the last day to register. February 3 is the first Saturday that you'll be able to celebrate the month at the market. The vending dates in February are Saturday, February 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2024.

Interested vendors can download an application at www.broadwaymarket.org or call the Broadway Market Management Office at 716-893-0705.

This event is supported by the Buffalo Bills Foundation.
